Do you have a mantel to decorate this holiday season? How and where would you focus your holiday decorating if you did not have a mantel? It is more common than not to find a home, condo or apartment without a mantel or fireplace in many cities. However; Holiday Ads or catalogs tend to picture beautiful mantels with garland draped across, leaving those without yearning for other decorating ideas.

Here are a few suggestions to add holiday decor without having a mantel to display things on.

– Start from the outside in by decorate the front door and steps with a holiday wreath, lighted topiaries or add garland to the porch railing and post.

– Decorate your dining room table with a holiday center piece, new holiday table runner or table cloth in rich holiday tones of red, green, gold or even silver and turquoise is popular this season.

– Change out your kitchen hand towels to reds and greens, add garland and holiday decor to the top of cabinets or media centers if possible.

– Add holiday towels to the powder room or bathroom, if you don’t want to purchase special towels take any color that you have, white, chocolate brown, red towels and holiday ribbon add a flat holiday ornament for garnish and instant holiday charm.

What would you suggest?

 Happy Holidays!

Aqua Beads or Magic Beads

I’m always looking for a cool new item to decorate with for the holidays or anytime really and I kept hearing about “Aqua Beads or Magic Beads” now I don’t know about you but my first thought was not a clean one hearing those names…(If you know what I mean)LOL (sorry)

Well anyway, I saw some Aqua Beads at Kirkland’s so I decided to try them out. (check your store not sure if they all have them) Their really neat beads that you soak in water and they expand to look like marbles. They come in an assortment of colors and sizes. They can be used as decoration in a vase of flowers or what I like is they can be used as air freshner if you soak them in your favorite fragrance oil.

They are really easy to do, simply soak the dry pellets in a large bowl of water for about 6 hours. Then drain the water, rinse and place in your vase. The color will not transfer or bleed so you can layer different colors and aqua beads are just as attractive as stones or glass marbles at a fraction of the cost. Perfect!

I have not had mine that long but it says you can reuse them, especially with the fragrance oils as it dries out just add more oil. It even says you can use them to germinate seeds, how cool is that?

I hope you find these beads as fun as I did even though they not “dirty beads” ;0)
